The Entrepreneurial Journey Of Businessman Gregory Aziz

Gregory J Aziz is the President, Chairman and also the CEO of National Steel Car. National Steel Car is a manufacturing company with a bias towards railroad freight cars. The company is based in Hamilton, Ontario.

 

Born on April 30, 1949, in London, Ontario, Gregory James Aziz attended the Ridley College. Greg then later proceeded to study economics at the University of Western Ontario.

 

1Greg’s entrepreneurial journey began at a young age. At just 22 years of age, Greg Aziz joined Affiliated Foods. Affiliated Foods was a family-owned business whose main focus was on fresh foods. They could import fresh foods from different parts of the world then sell it to fresh food wholesalers at a profit. Gregory J Aziz was immensely involved in helping the business grow to be one of the most sought-after fresh foods importers both in Europe and North America while at the same time distributing to the main fresh food markets across Canada and the United States.

 

In the late 80s and early 90s, Greg tried his luck with investment banking, it paid off handsomely. In 1994, Greg Aziz took the money he had made from investment banking and bought National Steel Car from Dofasco. Through massive investments in both human resources and capital injection, while at the same time leveraging on teamwork and robust engineering and design expertise, Gregory J Aziz was able to grow the company’s manufacturing capacity exponentially from 3500 cars per year in 1994 to 12000 cars per year in 1999. Within the same five-year period, National Steel Car created more than 2000 jobs.

 

These days, National Steel Car is the leading railroad freight car manufacturer, setting the industry standards with every new innovation. The company has an ever-increasing manufacturing capacity year on year. They credit these developments to their relentless pursuit of engineering, design and manufacturing excellence coupled with their deliberate resolute of staying at the top.

 

Its Corporate Social Responsibility programs spun from sponsoring several events including Theatre Aquarius and the Hamilton Opera, the United Way and the Salvation Army among other local charities. Each end year during Christmas, National Steel Car employees and their families, attend the Company’s Christmas Party where they also participate in major food drives for the local food banks.
